Subscription Box Love: Unique Vintage Dress of the Month

I love getting fun things in the mail. Back in college, I was the girl who would get overly excited about receiving a notice that I had a package to pick up. In the early days of the internet, my roommate and I would take a survey on jellybelly.com every day to get free jelly beans in the mail. I signed up for every catalog I could, just so I could keep my mailbox stuffed with things to collect. But, of course, surprise packages from my family were always the best kinds of mail. You never knew what sort of treasures awaited you in the box. Money? Little Debbies? A random can of French’s Fried Onions? Odd artwork from my little brother? Perhaps a toothbrush with my name on it? The possibilities were endless.

I guess that’s why I love the subscription box phenomenon so much. With each subscription box, you receive a monthly package in the mail filled with your favorite things, shipped straight to your door. I love trying new products and having interesting things to wear. Over the last few years, I have tried subscription boxes of many kinds… cosmetics, books, food, fandom, workout wear, jewelry… There are boxes out there to satisfy every curiosity.

My newest favorite is the Unique Vintage Dress of the Month Club. For $50 per month (plus shipping) you get a surprise vintage inspired dress to expand your wardrobe. Each dress is sent to subscribers at up to 70% off regular retail price. The best part is, if you aren’t satisfied with the style or fit, you can return it and use the credit toward the next month, or pick something new. I mean, not every single choice is going to be a winner or your personal taste. It’s awesome to not be stuck with a dress you won’t wear.

I have been a subscriber to Unique Vintage Dress of the Month for three months. Two out of the three shipments have been amazing!

1. June: 1940’s inspired Olson Swing Dress (retails at $88) The color of this dress is absolutely beautiful. It’s a gorgeous hunter green with a large white and pink floral print. The skirt is full, with lots of movement that is perfect for twirling. Plus it has pockets! The 40’s have always been a fashion inspiration for me, so this dress was a perfect match.

2. July: 1950’s inspired Delores Swing Dress (retails at $88) This dress gives me all the Mrs. Maisel vibes and I am here for it! The dress is extremely stretchy but feels tailored. The ruched pleats are quite flattering to the bust line, and the cuffed and buttoned sleeve detail adds an extra touch of something special. I can’t wait to wear this with a sparkly vintage brooch for Christmas parties!

3. August: Black Velvet Draped Off Shoulder Sophia Wiggle Dress (retails for $78) This dress really missed the mark for me. It reminded me of every band and choral performance dress I had in the 90’s. The sheen of the velvet didn’t lay flatteringly on my plus sized body, and the tight tube fit created a visible belly outline. Plus, the all around ruffle just was not my jam. The cool part is, I was able to exchange this and use an immediate credit voucher to order a Halloween dress I had my eye on.

As Meat Loaf said, “two out of three ain’t bad.” I have been pretty happy with the subscription service so far. I’m really looking forward to seeing what Unique Vintage offers me in the future. Hopefully, more 40s-60s inspired looks, maybe in themes for the upcoming holidays. If you love vintage fashion, this subscription box is definitely worth a look.
