Festive Fashion: Spooky Season

My husband and I are a little quirky. We both love clothes, and feel that our fashion is an extension of who we are on the inside. Plus, we both love to celebrate and believe we should bring the festive to every occasion through our clothes. Movie premieres. Dinner parties. Holidays, both major and minor. The occasion doesn’t have to be a big deal for the two of us to show up in style. For the Nafzigers… there’s always something to celebrate.

As a teacher, it’s fun to bring that festive fashion into my classroom, especially since I’m a performing arts teacher. It’s like I am given a free pass to be a bit eccentric. If I show up to school in a tutu, or a dress covered with spider webs, or a pair of Minnie Mouse ears, my students just go with it.

In the past, festive fashion seems to have been limited to tees, jewelry, and leggings. (They are NOT pants!) However, over the last few years it has become much easier to find clothes that loudly express my love for celebration. Brands are releasing amazing dresses, skirts, sweaters, and more. This is especially true of online brands like ModCloth and Unique Vintage, that cater to the quirkier fashion set, like myself. However, even big box stores and mall boutiques have had some amazing pieces to add a splash of sass to your wardrobe.

As October arrived, and Spooky Season was in full swing, I was inspired to go big with Halloween style in my wardrobe. Here’s a little peek at what I have found this fall.

Dress Lily: This is one of the popular brands that ship from Asia. The clothes are quite affordable. If you have the time and patience to wait for them to arrive, and if you read the sizing chart very carefully, you can find some great bargains. I got both of these dresses for $14.99 each, and ordered them in a 5XL. They fit great and were comfortable to wear all day. The material on the pumpkin dress was quite thin, so make sure to layer it. Add a spooky brooch or a cardigan for a fun finish to the dress.

ModCloth: I always find my favorite novelty print items at ModCloth. I have been purchasing statement pieces from them for several years. This year, I brought out one of my favorite dresses I have ever purchased from them… a fall forest dress, that I paired with some bright Snag Tights. I also picked up an adorable skirt that has Halloween cats playing in a graveyard. And get this… It. Glows. In. The. Dark. Ahhhhhhhh!!!! Paired with pumpkin spice Snag Tights, and a haunted house brooch from Erstwilder, this outfit was a total win.

Unique Vintage: I just recently started purchasing clothes from this brand. Why I didn’t sooner is silly. They offer vintage inspired silhouettes, along with accessories, that really add a touch of fun to your wardrobe. Plus, they do a few collabs with major brands, like Barbie, Care Bears, and Little Golden Books, that add even more nostalgia to their clothing. I picked up a beautiful Halloween print dress, a Care Bear tee, and an awesome candy corn inspired cardigan that were great additions to my closet.

Plus, I have a plethora of fun tees and sweaters that I have picked up in a variety of stores. Torrid has some of the best festive fashion for Plus Size girls. The other day, my friend asked me, “How many Halloween outfits do you actually own?!” The answer is not enough. There is always a reason to be festive. Just wait till Christmas time gets here!
