2020 Plus Size Swimwear Preview: Torrid

As I am sitting in my house, stuck in quarantine like the rest of the world, I have been dreaming of better days. Days when we can once again interact with our friends, go on adventures, and feel the sun on our face. Fingers crossed that extreme measures have us returning to normal before very long.

We are hoping that better days will allow us to follow through with our plans to head to Mexico with friends this summer to celebrate a milestone birthday and a milestone anniversary. There are few things better than lounging by the sea and reading a book with a margarita in hand. That means, cute swimwear is a necessity. I am the kind of girl who needs a different suit every day… so I decided to head to the stores to see what is new in Plus Size swimwear this season.

My first stop? Torrid. Torrid has a lot of really amazing swimsuits. I have always had good luck with the fit here too. There were several suits that I really wanted to try on, but discovered they were an online exclusive, which is always a bummer. However, they have a lot of options to grab in the store. Here’s a preview of what is new and now in stores at Torrid…

First, let’s jump on the tie dye trend… This suit is a two piece style, featuring a high-waisted brief and a peplum top. It has a beautiful sweetheart neckline and underwire support. It’s also available in extended cup sizes. The criss-cross back and extra hook make the top very secure for swimming in the waves. This suit was my favorite! Bright, supportive, and ready for a day in the sun.

My other favorite was the Black Leopard Swim Set. This suit is extremely classy and could be dressed up for lounging poolside with a pair of strappy sandals and a retro pair of sunglasses. The leopard pattern is flocked with velvet which gives it a really cool texture. The halter neckline and extra straps provide support on top. Since both pieces are black they have a ton of mix and match potential.

Sorcery, I tell you! This Black Floral and Striped suit is pure magic. It is completely reversible, making the potential for four different looks with one suit. One side features a beautiful black floral pattern. The other is a colorful set of stripes. Worn in any combo, this is a winner!

Yes, I wish I was a mermaid at times. (I totally own an Ariel themed swimsuit already.) Purple is also my favorite color. However, this mermaid inspired suit was not my jam. I really didn’t like the way the top fit my body… it just felt like the flounce top added extra volume to my bust, which I do not need. The metallic purple fabric also shone like a beacon on my ample behind. I will definitely take a pass on this one.

The last suit I tried on was the Tropical Leopard Swim Set, featuring a mix and match top and bottom. I really love the balconette swim top. The bust is flattering and well lined, with push up support. I just didn’t love it with the contrasting floral brief. If I chose this top, I would pair it with a solid black bottom.

Most of Torrid’s one piece suits are only available online. While I am totally comfortable in a two piece, I know that is a deal breaker for some plus-sized girls. If you don’t mind ordering and waiting, there are some really beautiful options available online, and you can always make returns free in the store. Plus, they typically have great coupons and sales. Torrid is one of my go-to destinations for fashion, especially swimwear. Check them out and start dreaming of a getaway from all this craziness.

Stay tuned for more swimwear options…
