Creating A Personal Brand

This past week, I attended a class hosted by Fashion Group International, St. Louis. The class was all about identifying your brand and telling your story. I was grateful for the chance to attend and make connections with innovators in the St. Louis fashion scene. The class was awesome, and gave me a lot of idea to start pondering. Before the class, I honestly had never thought about the fact that being a blogger means branding myself. If I were a business, who would I want to be? The possibilities are endless!

I live in St. Charles, MO... a community just west of St. Louis, known for being the town Lewis and Clark began their Westward exploration of the United States. The best part of St. Charles is its beautiful downtown. Brick streets are lined with an amazing array of gift shops, boutiques, and cafes blooming with beautiful local wares. For this post, I thought I would share some of my favorite local shops to visit, specifically focusing on plus size fashion. I hope to create a series of posts, highlighting some of my favorite local businesses.

The Greatest Shoes of All Time?

I'd like to take a minute to talk about my favorite shoes. A few years ago, Oprah had named a fancy but little known ballet flat as one of her favorite things. When Oprah says something is good, everyone in America jumps on board. Soon these shoes started showing up on my Pinterest feed and Facebook advertisements at an increasing rate. I kept thinking to myself, "What's the big deal with these shoes?" I mean, the packaging is pretty and leather is cozy, but are they really worth the hype? So, I decided to treat myself to a pair to see what the big deal is... and my love for Tieks was born.

The Great #OOTD Challenge

This whole blog idea was actually born five or six years ago in my classroom. That year, I had a couple of students who kept a notebook in their choir folder and wrote down what I wore every day. They would ask me questions like, "how BIG is your closet" and "do you just go home and throw your clothes away at the end of every day?" They didn't believe that I ever wore the same thing twice, no matter how hard I tried to convince them that I DID. And so, to prove them wrong, my #OOTD catalog was born.
